About Us

Welcome to the Chaos.

Chaos Theory (FRC Team 6242) is a learning-focused FIRST Robotics Competition team based in Selma, North Carolina, where students explore robotics, engineering, coding, CAD, fabrication, teamwork, and leadership from the ground up — one bolt, bug fix, and zip tie at a time.

Chaos Theory (FRC Team 6242) was founded in 2025 to create a place where students can explore robotics, engineering, and technology in a hands-on, welcoming environment.

Based in Selma, North Carolina and operating as part of the NC Robotics Initiative, Chaos Theory is mentored by FRC Team 6004 f(x) Robotics and was built around one core idea:

Learning should be exciting.

Our team gives students the opportunity to dive into every part of robotics — from CAD and coding to fabrication, wiring, tool safety, leadership, organization, and teamwork.

Whether someone has years of experience or has never touched a power tool before, there is a place for them here.

At Chaos Theory, students learn by building, experimenting, solving problems, and sometimes accidentally unplugging the thing that was definitely important.

Robotics is not just about building machines.

It is about learning how to think creatively, work as a team, solve challenges under pressure, and grow confidence through hands-on experience.

Also occasionally asking:

“Why is there an extra screw left over?”

We may not always know where every zip tie came from, but we do know this:

The future is built by people willing to learn.

Our Mission

To inspire students through hands-on robotics education by creating a fun, supportive environment where curiosity, creativity, teamwork, and technical skills can thrive.

Chaos Theory exists to help students discover what they are capable of — whether that means designing robots, writing code, leading projects, speaking to sponsors, or learning how to safely use tools for the very first time.

We believe learning should be exciting, collaborative, and just a little bit chaotic.

What Makes Us Different?

Learning Comes First

Chaos Theory was built to help students learn robotics from the ground up in a supportive environment where mistakes are part of the process.

Nobody starts as an expert.

Hands-On Experience

Students gain real experience using industry-relevant tools, software, engineering processes, and fabrication techniques while working on real robots.

A Team Environment

We are more than a robotics team.

We are a community of students, mentors, builders, programmers, creators, problem-solvers, and occasionally sleep-deprived competition attendees.

We celebrate creativity, teamwork, learning, and growth.

Meet Ricky Raccoon

Every great robotics team needs a mascot.

Ours just happens to be a neon raccoon with questionable engineering confidence.

Ricky Raccoon represents the spirit of Chaos Theory:

  • Curious
  • Creative
  • Resourceful
  • Determined
  • Slightly chaotic

Raccoons are known for figuring things out, taking things apart, and exploring everything they can get their tiny little hands on.

Honestly?

That sounds exactly like a robotics team.

Ricky reminds us that learning is about experimenting, exploring, and never being afraid to try something new.

FIRST Robotics Competition

FIRST Robotics Competition combines the excitement of sports with the rigors of science and technology.

Students work together with mentors to design, build, and program industrial-size robots to compete in challenging games against other teams.

FIRST helps students develop confidence, leadership, communication skills, and real-world STEM experience while preparing them for future careers.

Join the Team

No experience?

Perfect.

Chaos Theory was created for students who want to learn.

Whether you are interested in building, coding, CAD, electronics, leadership, marketing, organization, media, or just want to be part of something exciting, there is a place for you here.

You do not need to know everything.

You just need curiosity, a willingness to learn, and the ability to find the 5/8th wrench.

Come build the future with us.

And maybe a robot too.
